MCP16701 integrates a buck converter, low dropout regulator (LDO), and controller

Microchip Technology Inc. has launched a revolutionary power management IC MCP16701, specializing in AI acceleration cards and edge server power pain points. This PMIC integrates 8 channels of 1.5A parallel buck converters (efficiency>95%), 4 channels of 300mA LDOs, and an intelligent MOSFET driver controller, which can achieve ± 1% voltage accuracy in the industrial temperature range of -40 ℃~125 ℃, providing a full link power solution for FPGA such as Xilinx Versal.

This highly integrated device can reduce the circuit board area by 48% and reduce the number of components by more than 60% compared to discrete solutions. MCP16701 adopts an 8 × 8 mm small-sized VQFN package, providing a compact and flexible power management solution for space limited applications. MCP16701 can meet various power requirements through a configurable feature set and supports Microchip's PIC64-GX MPU and PolarFire ®  FPGA。

Rudy Jaramillo, Vice President of Analog Power and Interface Business Unit at Microchip, said, "With the launch of MCP16701, Microchip has set a new standard for power management IC technology by providing unprecedented integration and flexibility. This advanced power management IC is designed specifically for high-performance applications, aiming to help customers simplify the design process

MCP16701 has an I2C communication interface, which simplifies communication between the power management IC and other system components and improves communication efficiency. The operating temperature range of this device is TJ -40 ° C to+105 ° C, and it can achieve reliable performance under various complex environmental conditions.

The main feature of MCP16701 is its support for all converters to dynamically adjust the output voltage in 12.5 mV/25 mV steps. This maximum flexibility enables designers to precisely adjust power output to meet specific application requirements, helping to improve overall system efficiency and performance.

MCP16701 has joined Microchip's power management IC product line, which includes MCP16502, MCP16501, and other products to provide power support for high-performance MPU applications, including industrial computing, data centers, the Internet of Things, and edge AI.
