Sheng SIRUI announced the global launch of the STC42A automotive-grade hydrogen sensor, designed for battery thermal runaway detection
2026-07-16
Sensirion officially announced the full entry of its STC421A hydrogen sensor into the market. This product is an ideal choice for battery thermal runaway and hydrogen leak detection applications. STC421A is designed for automotive applications that require reliable hydrogen concentration measurement in clean air environments and is currently available for procurement through the global authorized channel partner network of Shengsirui.
STC42A is a digital hydrogen sensor developed by Shengsirui based on thermal conductivity technology, specifically designed for early warning of battery thermal runaway in automotive battery monitoring systems (BMS). This product complies with the AEC-Q100 (Grade 2) automotive certification standard, meeting the stringent requirements of the automotive industry for reliability and durability, and has been optimized for safety related battery applications.
Based on the long-term technical accumulation of Shengsirui in the field of thermal conductivity gas detection, STC421A has been calibrated before leaving the factory and can provide fully compensated digital hydrogen output. Its mature thermal conductivity measurement principle has extremely high robustness, excellent long-term stability, and extremely low power consumption, making it a reliable solution for safety critical thermal runaway detection in various battery systems.
The sensor is equipped with a digital I ² C interface, which can work in conjunction with an external SHT41A temperature and humidity sensor to achieve autonomous communication. Through the I ² C control interface, the system can read the temperature and humidity data of SHT41A and directly transmit it to STC15A, thereby achieving real-time absolute humidity compensation for hydrogen signals.
As a member of the STC4x product series, STC421A has been further optimized for hydrogen detection in thermal runaway applications, making it an ideal choice for battery thermal runaway and hydrogen leak detection. Its core advantage lies in the use of Shengsi Rui CMOSens ® Excellent performance achieved through technology - fully integrating sensing elements, signal processing, and digital calibration onto a single CMOS chip.
Pascal Erne, Product Manager for Battery Condition Monitoring at Shengsirui, said, "With STC15A, we have provided the automotive industry with a hydrogen sensor that can detect early gas release from battery thermal runaway. This helps system designers to trigger security measures in a timely manner according to the '5-minute warning' requirement proposed in relevant security standards. ”
