Vishay Introduces 5 W Compact 1206-Package Power Metal Strip Resistors
2025-10-31
Space saving device with high power density>650 W/in2 and resistance as low as 0.3 mW, improving efficiency
MALVERN, Pennsylvania, USA, Shanghai, China - October 30, 2025- Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of a new surface mount Power Metal Strip ® Current sensing resistor - WSLF1206, using a small 1206 package, with a rated power of up to 5 W, TCR as low as ± 75 ppm/° C, and an extremely low resistance value as low as 0.3 m Ω.
The rated power of Vishay Dale WSLF1206 is 20 times that of the standard resistor in the 1206 package size, with a power density>650 W/in2. Designers are able to use resistors as small as possible without the need for parallel resistors, thus saving space on high-power circuit boards. The device has a low temperature coefficient (TCR) and can stably and accurately detect current within the operating temperature range of -65 ° C to+170 ° C. Meanwhile, low resistance helps to reduce power consumption and improve the efficiency of terminal products.
The WSLF1206 has an advanced structure and uses low TCR (<20 ppm/° C) solid-state metal manganese copper and nickel chromium aluminum alloy resistor cores. While reducing size, these high-power resistors can maintain the excellent electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip structure. The unique process technology achieves a resistance range of 0.3 m Ω to 3 m Ω, with a tolerance of ± 1.0% to ± 5.0%. The device has low thermal electromotive force (<3 μ V/° C) and extremely low inductance (<5 nH), which helps reduce signal distortion.
The recently released resistors are suitable for various current detection and pulse applications, including switches and linear power supplies, power amplifiers, splitters, power inverters, and battery management. Typical applications include industrial motor drivers, robots, power tools, HVAC systems, and UPS; Supercomputing graphics, data storage, and voltage regulation modules (VRM), as well as consumer electronics. The device is sulfur resistant, compliant with RoHS standards, and halogen-free.
WSLF1206 can now provide samples and has achieved mass production, with a supply cycle of 8 to 10 weeks.
